Dr Philip Dixon was born and bred in the Rhondda. He attended Treorchy Comprehensive School and then read Politics, Philosophy and Economics at Oxford. He completed his doctoral studies at Cambridge. In 2003 he became ATL's first ever Director for Wales and a member of its Senior Management Team, He quickly pushed the Association to the centre of Welsh educational life. HIs highly acclaimed academic book, Testing Times: Success, Failure and Fiasco in Education Policy in Wales Since Devolution was published in 2016. After leaving ATL he became CEO of the Assessment Foundation. In his spare time Philip enjoys opera, ballet, cooking, gardening, reading, and cats.
Mark was formerly Director of AMiE, ATL's section for leader members, leaving in 2018 before taking on various director roles at the Education & Training Foundation - the workforce development charity for Further Education. He is currently Associate Director - Learning & Development at the University of Nottingham and employer liaison with the recognised unions.
Mark is nearing the end of his four year term as an NEU pension trustee and hopes to pass the member nominated position to someone equally keen to play their part in helping ensure appropriate oversight of the scheme.
Barry is a former NUT official and lead negotiator for teachers' pay, pensions, conditions of service and health and safety. He was secretary of the Teachers' Side of the Teachers Superannuation Working Party from 1976 - 2008. He was a member nominated Trustee of the NUTSSF, and consultant to Education International and the ETUCE.
