The State Pension increased by 4.8% from April 2026 under the Government's Triple Lock policy, which guarantees annual increases in line with the highest of earnings growth, inflation or 2.5%.

Recently, the Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced proposals to change the Triple Lock from April 2030, under which the State Pension would increase by the higher of inflation or 2.5%, with a further increase where necessary to ensure the State Pension keeps up with average earnings growth since the introduction of the new policy. The Government has said that the State Pension would continue to retain their value relative to earnings over the longer term, while generating savings that could help fund the proposed new National Care Service.

However, the Government has confirmed that the current Triple Lock will remain unchanged for the rest of this Parliament, meaning it is expected to apply to State Pension increases through to 2029. The proposed changes would not take effect until April 2030 at the earliest

For avoidance of doubt, the pension paid to you from the Scheme would continue to increase in line with the Scheme’s Rules and would not be affected by the proposed Triple Lock changes.
